Mama Lu’s hit the spot
Mama Lu’s hit the spot.
We ordered the nachos, Kellie had the original margarita, and I went with the Lu Dog draft beer. The nachos came out piled high and looked like they meant business. Plenty of melted cheese, pickled onions, jalapeños, sauce drizzled over the top, and enough flavor going on that every bite felt loaded. They were messy in the best way.
Definitely a fork-first kind of plate unless you enjoy wearing your lunch.
Kellie’s original margarita looked fresh and simple, with a salted rim and lime. Solid choice. Not trying too hard, just crisp, cold, and exactly what you want with food like this. My Lu Dog draft beer was easy drinking and worked well with the nachos. Light, cold, and a good balance to all the cheese, spice, and toppings.
The place itself had a cool laid-back taco shop feel. Nothing stiff or fussy. Just a casual downtown stop where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy good food without a lot of nonsense.
Overall, Mama Lu’s felt like a strong pick for a casual meal and drinks in Traverse City. The nachos were the star, the margarita did its job, and the beer paired well. We would order this combo again.
