At some point in every bluesman’s life, he finds himself standing at a crossroads—literal or metaphorical. On Day 5 of our 16-day community-powered A/B album test, we land squarely on the shoulder of Highway 61. Dusty, haunted, and humming with legends, this track marks a turning point not just in sound but in spirit.

This track is more than a song—it’s a question wrapped in steel strings: What would you trade to master your craft?

🎶 The Track: "Highway 61 Hypnosis"

Inspired by the mythology of the Delta blues and the infamous crossroads pact, Highway 61 Hypnosis channels the eerie rhythm of a haunted journey. It begins with droning tremolo and trance-like slide guitar that builds in layers, as if summoned from a spirit realm where time and pitch dissolve. This is music that doesn’t ask for permission—it pulls you in and holds you under.

🔴 Side A: "Deal with the Devil"

Imagine it: a lone bluesman stands under a flickering neon crossroads sign, a shadowy figure with burning red eyes waiting just beyond the light. "Deal with the Devil" is cinematic blues, filled with slow burn tension, spectral ambiance, and deliberate slide guitar lines that cut like a contract signed in sweat. You can almost smell the smoke and whiskey in this track.

Musically, Side A leans into minor chord hypnosis and subtle syncopation. This is a deal you hear unfolding in real time.

🔹 Side B: "Worth the Price?"

Side B takes a different path—one that walks away from the crossroads, but not unmarked. The track opens with a surreal backward riff, fire-licked rhythm tones, and ends with a high vibrato moan that feels like regret rising from your gut. On this side, the soul isn’t sold—it’s already spent.

It’s colder, more haunted, and veers slightly more experimental, but fans of deeper lyrical and tonal narrative may hear echoes they can’t shake.

🧰 Cast Your Vote

Only one version of Highway 61 Hypnosis will make the final album cut. Your vote determines the winner:

  • 👍 LIKE the Side A video if "Deal with the Devil" earns the spot.
  • 👍 LIKE the Side B video if "Worth the Price?" deserves to stay.

🕵️‍♂️ Inspiration & Creation

We drew inspiration for this track from oral histories of Highway 61, interviews with blues historians, and modern AI sound design tools. Vocals were digitally layered using emotional mimicry models, and guitars were generated using AI-assisted slide plugins set to mimic rusted resonator tones. The final mix balances vintage hiss with modern stereo imaging to give it that swampy depth without sounding flat.
